The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has announced that the masking mandate in schools will be extended through November 1. The memo from DESE regarding the extension is available here.
As of October 15, 2021 schools that have a vaccination rate of over 80% (staff and students) will be eligible to transition to optional masking. Transition to optional masking is left up to individual districts once the vaccination threshold is met. Grafton High School and Grafton Middle School may be eligible. Deciding if and when a transition will be considered will be made after vaccination information is collected. I expect that the School Committee will begin discussing a possible transition in mid to late October. The memo regarding vaccination thresholds can be accessed here.
COVID Protocol Flowcharts
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has created flowcharts to help people understand the three protocols that are utilized for COVID responses. The protocol flowcharts can be accessed here.
The new Test and Stay Program has been incredibly helpful in allowing us to keep the majority of close contacts in school. The state has limited the scope of those who we are able to include in the program and this has caused confusion. The central changes to the program include:
-Close contacts outside of school do not qualify for participation in the Test and Stay Program
-Fully vaccinated individuals do not qualify for participation in the Test and Stay Program
