Principal's Update 2-10-19

Tower of Books Challenge:  Our students have continued to make great progress towards our Tower of Books Challenge! We have put forth a goal that by Thursday February 14th, we would like to see if 80% our students to complete the first challenge.  If we meet this goal, students will be treated to watching/listening to a favorite book video during lunch on Friday before the break.  If you are in need of the first Challenge, please see the attachment in the email for this update.   If you haven't started yet, or aren't quite done, now is the time to read or be read to! Here is a breakdown of what is needed!

Prek: 25 more students
Kindergarten: 45 more students
Grade 1: 64 more students

Lexia Club:  Please note, that on days in which a snow delay is called, there will be no Morning Lexia Club.

Spring ASEP: Keep your eyes out for a flyer for our Spring ASEP options, coming after the February break.  The afterschool enrichment options will run from March 11th through the week prior to April vacation.

Prek and Kindergarten Registration:

Do you have a child who will be 3 or 4 next Fall and are looking for prek options?  As a parent and as the Principal- I would encourage you to consider the NGES prek program!  There is a half day (9-11:30 or 12:30-3) or full day (9-3) option to meet the needs of all ages.  Our prek program is a huge part of our school community, allowing students to transition from prek to Kindergarten with ease.  If you have any questions about our prek program, please do not hesitate to reach out to Nicole MacDonald at

Do you have or know a child turning 5 prior to September 1, 2019? Kindergarten Registration is just around the corner!  Registration will be held here at NGES on March 5th and 6th with a Parent Orientation during the evening of March 7th.  If you know of someone whose child is age appropriate, please direct them to our school website or to call us here at NGES!

Celtics Spirit Day: This Friday, February 15th, students and staff are invited to wear their Celtics gear or green to support the Celtics in their two games over the break!

Word of the week:  Our word of the week is unity. We will introduce the word on Monday morning and then continue to discuss and use it throughout the week. A child-friendly definition for unity could be,  can mean when groups come together to form one and work together. A great book to pair with the word is One, by Kathryn Otoshi, who will be visiting NGES this Spring!

Upcoming Events:
