Principal's Update 1-26-19
NGES Specialist Night: is Tuesday, February 5th! Due to the high attendance for this event, we will break it into two groups: Please see the schedule below:
5:00-6:00PM: Kindergarten families are invited to rotate through PE, Music and Art!
6:00-7:00PM: Grade 1 families are invited to rotate through PE, Music and Art!
Please note that families will begin in an assigned location and will be asked to rotate every 20 minutes, to ensure time in each location!
(If you have a child in both grades, please feel free to combine for one or stay for both)
NGES Edcamp is coming! This coming Tuesday, a flyer will be sent home with students. We hope that you parents, will help us once again put on an EdCamp here at NGES! Not sure what EdCamp is? Edcamp started as professional development for teachers. Branded as an “unconference”, teachers are engaged in personalized, authentic learning. At NGES, we would like to offer Edcamp for students. Students will have the opportunity to select learning opportunities that are as individual as they are! So, save the date! EdCamp will be held on Friday, April 12th!
Patriots Spirit Day: Show your Pats pride this coming Friday! Looking forward to cheering our home team on this weekend in the Superbowl!
From Mrs. Sudbey, School Nurse: As required by the Department of Public Health all students in Grade 1 are required to have Hearing, Vision, and Body Mass Index Screenings. If you would like your child to be exempt from any specific or all screenings, please send a note requesting this; and then please send in a current physical exam dated within the current school year. If a student does not pass a screening, the parent/guardian will be notified, and requested to follow-up with your private physician. Of course, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, Jean Sudbey, RN, at NGES, 508.839.5483, or email@example.com. Thank you!
Valentine’s Day Celebrations: Will be held on Thursday, February 14th. Thank you in advance to our amazing Room Parents who will be coordinating the celebrations!
General Reminders from NGES:
- Students riding the bus must be outside (and visible) in the morning and the person receiving them off the bus in the afternoon must be outside and visible.
- The weather now requires a jacket, if not all 5 things! If your child is in need of a coat or other winter clothes, please call Ms. Flynn or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Parent Drop Off and Pick Up: please park in the first lot (by prek entrance) or along the side and walk your child to the front of the building. While it may seem like a good idea in the cold weather to get closer, cars may not drive or park in the bus circle.
- We have 3 recess blocks at NGES; 1.Arrivals 8:45-9am, 2. Midday before lunch and 3. Afternoon around 2:15pm. In order to preserve students 5 Winter Things, we will only go outside during the midday recess, which is also our longest recess block. Therefore- students may wear or carry their 5 Things off the bus.
Tower of Books Challenge: Our Tower of Books Challenge has begun! Next time you are at NGES, take a look at our Tower Graph that has started to take shape! It is located on the green board in the back of the cafeteria and we have already read 900+ book!! As students complete their first Challenge, they will have the opportunity to choose a book from Ms. Flynn’s library! Stay tuned for our first School Wide Challenge to be shared next week!
Progress Reports: Will be coming home on February 1st. At this time, progress reports are shared only if a student has shown significant progress and/or regression here at school.
Word of the week: Our word of the week is acceptance. We will introduce the word on Monday morning and then continue to discuss and use it throughout the week. A child-friendly definition for acceptance could be, to treat others in a kind and welcoming way. A great book to pair with the word is A Bad Case of Stripes, by David Shannon.
Tuesday, January 29th: ½ Day PD. AM Prek will be dismissed at 11:30AM. Kindy and Grade 1 will begin dismissal at 11:50AM. There will be no PM Prek.
