Classroom SuppliesThank you for all of the supplies that have been donated! I greatly appreciate your continual support and generosity! If you would like to donate something to our classroom, we are currently in need of Wet Ones Wipes (or Baby Wipes) and Clorox Wipes!Homework:Our homework for most weeks...
Homework is handed out on Monday and due on Friday. Students are expected to record their reading, spelling, and math practices on the smiley face log. Each time we begin a new FUNdations unit (usually every 2 weeks), I will send home a letter and word lists explaining what phonics pattern we are learning. The following week I will only send home a log, as students will usually continue to study the same pattern for 2 weeks.Reading Homework - Students may read to self, read to someone, or listen to reading. Please be sure your child is reading every night!FUNdations/Spelling Homework - Help your child practice our spelling patterns and trick words that match the FUNdations unit every night. I have sent home papers with a variety of ideas for how you can practice words to keep it fun!Math - Practice math fact fluency every night. Students are expected to master addition and subtraction facts 0-20 by the end of second grade. (This means name the sum within 3 seconds using mental math strategies, not fingers or touch points.) I will often send home games for you to play with your child that also practice these facts and various math skills. If your child has mastered facts 0-20, or you need a change one night, work through some "HOT" problems with them. As I mentioned at Open House, the "HOT" problems are "Higher Order Thinking" problems on our Envisions math papers and are challenging. Keep papers that your child did not get the HOT problem correct and go through those together!* A great way to build automaticity in addition and subtraction math facts to 20 is to use some of the websites linked from my website (to the right). Check out this link for several fun games to study math facts.Mystery ReaderPlease sign up to be a "Mystery Reader" in our classroom! Mystery Readers sign up on a Friday afternoon to come read to our students from 2:30-2:45. Please bring a book with you, that you think we will enjoy! Parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts/uncles, and more, are all welcome to sign up!SnacksPlease remember to send your child to school with a healthy, NUT-FREE, snack every day. We will have snack time every morning. We will have recess from 11:03-11:28 and we will eat lunch from 11:29-11:54. Also, if your child does an afterschool program anytime throughout the year, please send an extra snack.
