Echo the owl was introduced to the classroom. He will help us with our Fundation lessons. The students were also introduced to the writing grid to help with their printing. We use special names on our writing grid. The first line is the skyline, second is the plane line, third is the grass line, and the last is the worm line. All the consonants and short vowels have been introduced in Fundations. The students have worked on CVC words, digraphs (ch, th, sh, wh, -ck), bonus letters (ll, ff, ss, zz), glued sounds ( -all, -an, -am, -ng, -nk), and suffix "s". In Daily 5, the students are reading to self, reading to someone, listening to reading, working with teacher and word work. They are using the strategies Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish. Tappy Turtle, Trying Lion, Helpful Hippo, Stretchy Snake, and Chunky Monkey to help them read. The students have worked on story elements; character, setting, and B/M/E.
The students have worked on the numbers 1-10, teen numbers using the ten frame and rods/cubes, one less and one more concept, place value up to 120, computing 1 digit addition and subtraction problems, addition and subtraction word problems. They have learned the count-on and make ten strategy to help them add.
The students work on their Weekend News every Monday. They are working on Opinion writing with teacher support. The students have worked on Namers (Nouns), Common and Proper Nouns, and Verbs.
